Dorset Girls v Canford Magna Girls Tuesday 5th August 
 
Weather lashing down!  It was decided to run with match as girls were there and kitted out.
 
We had to borrow 1 girl and Dave Cooper loaned us Fran Young.   The pairings for the g'somes were
 
Hayley Davis h/c 1 Junior Captain and Fran Young 12  gave 7 shots to
Melanie Buxton Canford Junior Capt h/c 5 and Lizzie Turner 21.    Result Hayley/Fran won
 
Georia Hall h/c 4 and Sianelle White 28 gave 6 shots to
Alice Davis 20 and Chloe Stanley 23.   Result  a halved match
 
Lucy Walters h/c 23  and Lucinda Tindle 17 gave 6 shots to
Danni Bradly 23 and Sarah Webb 29.    Result Lucy/Lucinda won
 
the last match was a singles - Sophie Keech 10 h/c (recently returned from Portugal for the summer with a handicap of 17 and in a month has managed to get down to 10) against Alice Young 18.   The result was a win for Sophie.
 
All the matches were very close and played as if they were playing for the same team as they usually do and all seemed to have plenty to talk about whether golf or not but when it came to the last few holes there was no quarter given with galleries on both sides egging everyone one.  
Canford Magna looked after the girls very well with sandwiches chips and drinks afterwards and we have set the date for the same time next year for another match.
 

 
 
Serena Bosch of Weymouth comes fourth in the Abraham Trophy.
 
County Durham’s  Charlotte Hindmoor became England’s most improved girl golfer when she scored a narrow victory in the final of the Abraham Trophy at Ramside.

The 14-year-old from Blackwell Grange beat two other competitors on countback after all three girls tied on net scores of three-under 71.

Charlotte won by virtue of her last six holes, which she played in one-over par gross. The runner-up was Alice Lowe (Chevin) while Rosie Mist (Hayling) was third. Serena Bosch (Weymouth) was fourth with 72

Staggering results for Dorset's Juniors........
 
Ferndown Ladies Championships were held on Sunday 27th July and Hayley Davis 15  2 h/c broke the ladies course record, held by her from last year by scoring a Gross 70 in the am round !! only to have her new course record broken by Georgia Hall 12  4/hc who carded a gross 67 in am round!!!
 
Hayley went on to win the Championships by scoring a gross 69 in the pm round on one of the hottest days of the year so far.
 
6 Girls from Dorset are playing in Durham from Monday to Thursday in various EWGA Championships
 
Serena Boch of Weymouth in the Abraham Trophy final for most improved girl golfer of the year.
 
Alice Plumb - Yeovil - Georgia Hall and Francesca Young - Ferndown in the uner 13 Championships
 
Hayley Davis - Ferndown in the under 15 Championships
 
Melissa McMahon (Dorset County  Champion) is playing in the English Girls Championships.

Sarena Weymouth

 

11 year old Sarena Bosch of Weymouth has qualified for the final of The Abraham Trophey to be held Ramside Golf Club, Durham on Monday 28 July 2008.

Sarena  is currently in her third year of playing golf and her ambition is to play on the LPGA tour. 18 months ago  Sarena's handicap started at 47 and she has managed to reduce this to a respectable 23.

 SOUTH WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS.  TIVERTON GOLF CLUb 15th-17th JULY 2008

8 Dorset girls played in the South West Girls Championship at North Wits on Sunday 13th July.

Hayley Davis was the runner up with gross score of 154 from the morning (74) and afternoon (80) rounds.  Hayley also won the Best under 15 Trophy.

 
Georgia Hall won the Best under 13 prize.  Her gross score was 162 - morning 79, afternoon 83.
 
A big well done to all the girls who took part and good luck to those going to the English Girls Close Amateur Championships at Durham City Golf Club later this month.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 SOUTH WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS.  TIVERTON GOLF CLUb 15th-17th JULY 2008
 
Dorset have a strong field representing the County in the SW Championships at Tiverton Golf Club, but they face some strong opposition from the Home County.
 
The Dorset players are:-

                              Melissa McMahon            Yeovil
                              Georgia Hall                   Ferndown
                              Alice Plumb                    Yeovil
                              Dee Wood                     Crane Valley
 
Fern will be first off, playing with top Devon player Jessica Bradley, who must have a strong home advantage, Tiverton being her home club. 
 
Last years winner, Jo Shorrocks of Hamptworth, Wiltshire, will be trying to retain her title.  Although Jo is now a Wiltshire player, the course is well know to her as, for many years played in the Devon County First Team and won their County Championships several times.
 
Play commences on Tuesday 15th July, with 36 holes played on day won.  The top 16 go through to a knock out, with the second 16 playing for the 2nd flight.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Match against Queens Park boys May early bank holiday.

Unfortunately we were 2 players down and Queens Park kindly loaned 2 low handicap boys to the girls - George Long h/c 8 and Sam Hoyle h/c 7.
The team was

Lucinda Tindle - Ashley Wood 26 and Francesca Young - Ferndown 15   Lost
Alice Plumb - Yeovil 9  and Alice Young - Canford Magna 24  Won
Chloe Stanley - Canford Magna 29 and Sam Hoyle - Queens Park 7 Won
Alice Davis - Canford Magna 27 and George Long - Queens Park 8  Won
It is the 3rd Year of this match and we are 1 up so far.   It was also quite pleasant to play on a dry, warmish, windless day.!!
 
 
 
 
 
The Ashley Wood and Palmer Trophies played at Bridport on June 8th
 
10 girls played on a lovely sunny (sun cream on) day with very little wind for Bridport.

The Palmer Trophy was presented by Bridport & West Dorset G.C. and in future the event will alternate with Ashley Wood G.C. 
 
 
The next girls match is against Canford Magna girls on 5th August
