Match Report 20th December 2009
Well done to all the girls who played in our first Quadrangle match at Canford School GC on Sun 20 Dec 09. It was very cold but sunny; and conditions were challenging but playable despite frozen grounds and greens.
Some excellent scores were produced, and we look forward to our next meeting
with the boys who i am sure will not get the better of us again.
Thanks to Sophie Keech, Fran Young, Lizzie Turner, Danielle Bradly, Alice
Davis and our last minute stand in Andy (Andrea) Parsons, who gallantly played
for the girls, as our reserve was struck down with the flu.
A great day and a super start to our Christmas break.

County Junior Organiser’s Report
We have been without a Junior Organiser for the last month. We thank Fred Brown and Deryn Bosch for all their hard work for our Juniors last year.
I am delighted to welcome the new Junior Committee, Jane Groves from Broadstone and Grace Burke from Knighton Heath. Both are good golfers, experienced administrators and staunch supporters of County golf. They will be joined by Diane Turner, a parent of one of our junior girls, who will take on the roll of Junior Secretary. They are currently working on fixtures for 2010, which will be published in January.
Working with our juniors is an exciting part of county golf and a rewarding experience – I know they will do a great job!
Last year we were fortunate to initiate a ‘Birdie Squad’ – a training scheme for promising juniors, funded mostly by EWGA. Sadly EWGA are no longer funding this scheme, but it was so successful that we are determined to keep our Birdies going.
We have selected David Miles, the Professional at Knighton Heath to coach the Squad, which will accommodate 10 girls per session. The funding will be shared between the parents and ourselves. Our share will come from the sale of the County Cards – so Delegates please sell as many as possible and let’s keep this training going!
Throughout the winter, the girls will compete in Quadrangular Matches with three County Boys’ teams. The first will take place at Canford School on 20
December and more will follow after Christmas.
Last year Peter Alliss donated trophies for girls and boys for his Alliss Masters series. The tournament is held over three rounds of strokeplay at various venues from Nov to March. The top eight girls will go through to the matchplay stages at Ferndown GC on 24 & 25 April 2010. We wish our girls well and look forward to some great golf.
Website – please remind the Junior Organiser at your club that the Juniors have their own page on the county website, where they will find this information and much more. They can also contact the County Captain or the Junior Committee directly.

DORSET JUNIOR ACADEMIES
Great news, Dorset Girls will benefit from funding from Sports England!
The funding is directed towards those girls who are not quite ready for County Training but who have commitment and enthusiasm for the game.
In August and September 2009, three assessment days were held where a team of professionals undertook a series of skills challenges. Nerve racking for some, but many performed excellently and should be congratulated.
The age range who attended was from 7 to 16. Our aim was really 9-14 but the professionals and the selection panel decided that we would be fairly relaxed on this requirement, making sure that everyone, girls and boys had an opportunity to have some ongoing training.
The girls who were selected for the 2009-2010 series of Coaching Academies are:-
Chelsie Bartholomew – Dudsbury
Amy Parsons – Dudsbury
Jessica Stott – Parkstone
Lucy Parkes – Dudsbury
Imogen Still – Parkstone
Laura Webb – Canford Magna
Sarah Webb – Canford Magna
Well done to all these girls.
Several younger girls will be invited to a junior Academy being run by the Academy Professionals.
Those selected, together with the boys selected, will be taking part in monthly sessions at three locations in the County. The dates for the Academies are
8th November 2009
6th December 2009
10th January 2010
7th February 2010
7th March 2010
11th April 2010
9th March 2010
13th June 2010
The locations for these Academies are Canford Magna Golf Club, Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club and Iford Golf Centre.

We had some successes in the matches against the under 14 boys winning 3 out of the 8 matches.

An order of merit was played this year and was won by Fran Young, with Georgia Hall and Sarah Webb in second place.
The season came to a grand finale with the County Championship being held at Ferndown on Sunday, the weather was very kind to the girls.

I would like to thank everyone for the lovely gifts presented to me at the championship presentation.
