Peter Allis 2017/18

Peter Alliss Round 1

On Sunday 8th October at Ferndown Forest Golf Club

What a lovely day to start the rounds for Peter Alliss 2018. Sun was shining and it was lovely and warm and we had fifteen juniors out playing.

It was good to see a lot of new faces after so many junior girls are no longer members of the junior squad.

Thank you to Ferndown Forest for their support of junior golf in Dorset and to the catering staff for the cheesy chips.

There was some excellent golf played on a tight course, with lots of trees, ditches and bushes to devour golf balls. Rebekah Hobell managed to make it to watch and climb trees after celebrating Becky Dodd 18th birthday.

The winner was Sienna Birch with 41 points, closely followed by Erin van Reenen and Suzy Cribb on 40 points.

Thank you to Paul Williams and Martin Purchase for shepherding two groups of girls and to Steve Haesler and Gary Travers for ball spotting.

Next round is October 22nd at Crane Valley first tee 11:00. A start sheet will be sent out in the next few days.

Peter Alliss Round 2

On Sunday 22nd October at Crane Valley GC

The day started out looking promising but we had the rain on and off in sharp showers – plus there was still some of the strong breeze from the day before.

We had twelve girls playing with ages ranging from 10 – 16 and handicaps from 5 – 30.

The rain, wind and length of the course was a little too much for the younger girls but it gave them a good experience of playing on different courses.

The winner with a good 36 points was Sasha Trickett  (Ferndown GC), followed by Meg Walker (Broadstone GC) with 34 points and Amy Travers (Christchurch GC) with 32 points on count back from Lauren Purchase (Broadstone GC).

No more competitions until 24th February 2018 at Broadstone GC.

We would like to thank Crane Valley GC for courtesy of the course and their hospitality in the pro shop and in the restaurant.

BROADSTONE GOLF CLUB

The sun was shining and it was a glorious day if not for the cold. I would like to start by thanking the following for going out with the girls and also ball spotting on 1st, 7th and 13th.

Paul & Tricia Cornell

Paul Williams

Steve Haesler

Jenny Burke & Ali Haesler

Michael Murphy

There are a few girls taking part in the Peter Alliss for the first time and some of them have not played such a challenging course as Broadstone GC. The course was in lovely condition considering the weather that we have recently.

The girls all played very well with a couple of putts being missed. Their driving was really good managing not to get into too much trouble in the gorse. It was really pleasant standing on the 7th and 13th watching the girls play in the sun.

The winner was Molly Kington (Weymouth GC) with 35 points, 2nd was Suzy Cribb (Ferndown GC) with 31 points and in 3rd place was Sienna Birch (Broadstone GC) with 30 points.

I would like to thank Broadstone GC, Ed and Tracy and the catering staff for their continued support of girl’s junior golf.

The race for the final eight places for the semi-final is very close.

With three rounds played it is all to play for and the current standings are:

Sasha Trickett   30 points

Sienna Birch   26 points

Amy Travers   25 points

Suzy Cribb   24 points

Megan Withnall   23 points

Meg Walker   23 points

Molly Kington   21 points

Chloe Haesler    19 points

Louise Burke   17 points

Scarlett Williams  16 points (only played two rounds)

Lauren Purchase  16 points

Jessica Murphy   16 points

Elle Read     16 points

Only the best three counts – so onto Ashley Wood for the last round on 18th March.

Winner

Molly Kington

2nd Place

Suzy Cribb

3rd Place

Sienna Birch

Peter Alliss Round 4

The fourth round of Peter Alliss 2017/18 was played on Sunday 25th March at Ashley Wood Golf Club. The competition had to be re-arranged due to snow the previous weekend and this meant that a few of the girls could not play due to other arrangements and have missed out on qualifying for the match play.

I must thank the following parents for running the competition for me – I had previously arranged commitments – Steve Haesler, Caroline Townsend, Martin Purchase.

The winner was Chloe Haesler with 37 points, second was Amy Travers with 34 points and Sasha Trickett was 3rd with 32 points on count back.

A few of the girls that would have qualified are unfortunately on holiday and will not be able to play in the match play event and that includes Sash Trickett who is the current holder.

The quarter finals is to be held on 7th April at Ferndown Golf Club on the Alliss Course (weather permitting) is between:

Amy Travers v Jessica Murphy  09:00

Meg Withnall v Meg Walker   09:08

Chloe Haesler v Lauren Purchase  09:16

Sienna Birch v Elle Read   09:24

I would like to thank Mike Batty for being very flexible in allowing us to re-arrange the match and to all the members at Ashley Wood GC for their continued support of Girls junior golf in Dorset.

Peter Alliss Match Play

Eight girls qualified for the Peter Alliss Matchplay on Saturday and Sunday 7th/8th April 2018 at Ferndown – Alliss course after playing four rounds over the winter at a variety of courses.

The players were:

Amy Travers, Jessica Murphy, Megan Withnall, Meg Walker, Chloe Haesler, Lauren Purchase, Sienna Birch and Suzy Cribb

The Quarter Finals were played in very pleasant weather – not the rain that had been forecast. All matches were played to a high standard and were very enjoyable to watch.

Jessica won 1 up against Amy

Megan Withnall won on 19th against Meg Walker

Lauren won 1up against Chloe

Sienna won 2/1 against Suzy.

All very close matched. Onto the afternoon for the semi-finals and Jessica played Megan with Lauren playing Sienna.

Yet again some excellent golf, and the weather continued to play its part.

Megan won 3/1 against Jessica and Sienna won 2/1 against Lauren.

Onto Sunday, when the weather did not play its part and there was a drizzle for the eighteen holes Final between Megan and Sienna.

Megan started well winning the 1st, the second was a half. Sienna winning the 3rd to go all square. Sienna went 2 up on the 5th but Megan won the next hole. The play was excellent and very close. Eventually Sienna put on the pressure but Megan fought back to the end and Sienna came out the winner 3/2, congratulations to both girls on playing so well.

It was a great two days with lots of parents there to cheer on their daughters.

A big thank you to Ferndown Golf Club for allowing us to play the two days and to catering for the sandwiches and chips and the tea and coffee.

To Ian Hulse of Dorset Golf Union for arranging the dates and tee times, plus the food on Saturday.

To the parents who refereed the matches: Steve Haesler, Martin Purchase, Michael Murphy, Lilli Horn and Grace Burke.

Thank you also to Grace and Tracy for following the girls and Grace presenting the Trophy and prizes.
