DORSET LADIES COUNTY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

Two fifteen year old girls – Melissa McMahon from Yeovil Golf Club and Hayley Davis of Ferndown GC entertained a large gallery to a spectacle of golf on Friday afternoon during the finals of the Dorset Ladies’ County Golf Championships at Dudsbury Golf Club.

After 9 holes Haley was 3 Up but by playing par golf Mel fought back and the match was all square after 16 holes.  On the 17th the girls traded shot for shot, halved it with birdie 4s. They again traded shot for shot on the 18th which they halved in 4.  Both girls drove beautifully down the 19th, after which Mel closed out the match for a win to become Dorset Ladies’ County Golf Champion.

Mel and Hayley are good friends and they played the match in excellent spirit, readily acknowledging each others good shots, with much chat and laughter as they progressed from hole to hole.

DLCGA Captain, Pip Duncan said. “The manner in which these girls conducted themselves was remarkable and a lesson to us all – they were back in the club house within 3 hours of starting the match having completed 19 holes of awesome and fearless golf – on the day they were both winners!”
