Ladies  Golf  Tournament  Final

Monday  September  17th  2018

Dear Beales Captain,

What a difference a day makes! Today the sky is dark with ominous rain clouds and the wind is blowing a hooley, but yesterday we were truly blessed with one of those rare, glorious, late summer days of warm sunshine, only a gentle breeze, and crystal clear skies. We were all out on the Purbeck Hills for the 35th final of our Beales Ladies Golf Tournament, most generously hosted by the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club. The teams from Parkstone and Hamptworth met in good order for their match over this wonderful course, set up in the hills above the ocean, with Parkstone prevailing to take the Beales Bronze trophy from Hamptworth, who were competing in their very first final. Many congratulations to both Captains and teams and their caddies on an excellent day, which concluded with a delicious meal of roast lamb and scrummy desserts, greatly enjoyed by everyone.

Very sincere thanks go to the Management and staff at the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club, for their courtesy, their most excellent service and staff, and the warmth of their welcome to all of us on the day. To their Ladies Captain, Melanie Coombs, also, for the pleasure of her company and assistance throughout the day, and to the unseen greenstaff, who produced such a splendid course for everyone to enjoy. Warmest thanks as always go to our most loyal and generous Sponsor, Beales plc, with both Mr Nigel Beale, The President, and Mr Paul Masterson, the Marketing Director, in attendance for the presentations of trophies, together with lovely goodie bags of gifts for all the ladies. The day became a very happy party with everyone going home tired, but smiling and content.

This has been quite an eventful year overall, with a wonderful ‘Hole in One’ for Ruth Thrussell of Ferndown in the Spring but then followed by the sadness of two clubs deciding in July that they would be leaving the tournament next year due to falling numbers. To all of you, I send my thanks and congratulations, whether as a Beales Captain or a team player. I thank you for all your work and support in bringing this 35th tournament through to its conclusion, and hope you have enjoyed happy days in your matches.

It is always a great pleasure working with you all throughout the year, and I am always here to help if needed. Before we know it, it will be Spring 2019 and off we go again.

Meantime, I send my best wishes to you and all your Lady members, for the coming closed season of  Christmas and New Year and for a successful and happy golfing season in 2019.
